Williams Brothers was selected through a competitive award by TxDOT, in August 2013, as the Design-Builder to perform the $125.7 M design development and construction of the Loop 1604 Western Extension, a 4.7 mile stretch of San Antonio’s 95.6-mile outer loop. WB was responsible for upgrading Loop 1604 from FM 471 (Culebra Road) to SH 16 (Bandera Road) from a mostly 4-lane divided roadway with at-grade signalized intersections, to a 4-lane expressway section, extending continuous frontage roads. WB built new overpasses at Braun, New Guilbeau, and Shaenfield Roads; 2-lane frontage roads with bridges at Helotes Creek; city street connections; and auxiliary lanes between entrance and exit ramps.
WB’s scope was further expanded to include the Option Work: a new direct connector from Loop 1604 to SH 151. Expediting completion of the Project spurred economic development in the Greater San Antonio area by offering improved accessibility, mobility, and air quality improvements sooner in a rapidly growing community.
